At Coddington C of E Primary and Nursery School we believe in developing the whole child. Through our teaching we aim to equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices about the important things in their lives and to provide them with high quality learning experiences that lead to a consistently high level of pupil achievement. We maintain that learning should be challenging and exciting for everyone. We believe that appropriate teaching and learning experiences, embedded in high expectations, help children to lead happy and rewarding lives. This will lead to aspirations and high ambitions in their future lives.

Curriculum Vision

Our curriculum is based on three key principles:

  • Our curriculum is sequential and based on the information pupils should know at certain points.
  • Children will know more and remember more.
  • The curriculum allows pupils opportunities to model the school values and an understanding of the diverse world in which we live.

Our intention is to provide a progressive and thematic knowledge-rich curriculum that empowers children to grow in independence and confidence. The curriculum is both broad and balanced and allows all to achieve. We strive to deliver an ambitious and enriching curriculum to all learners, including children with special educational needs and disabilities, in line with the Equality Act 2010 and Special Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. Find out more about this on our /send page

Coddington C of E Primary School and Nursery curriculum provides children with opportunities to ask probing questions, think critically and to challenge themselves by questioning perspective and judgement.  Each termly topic has a Big Question that provokes analysis and justification, and a real outcome that allows the children to apply their new knowledge creatively.

Curriculum planning strategies are utilised that allow pupils to remember more and think deeply at a conceptual level, leading to greater progress. Adaptations are undertaken by offering opportunities for deeper thinking to pupils who grasp concepts rapidly and scaffolding and timely interventions to ensure all children make good progress.

We want children to become life-long learners and adults who can prosper in their chosen path. We appreciate this takes more than just knowledge. Throughout our curriculum we also value and encourage non-cognitive abilities such as motivation, communication, and self-efficacy. Above all children must have a sense of enjoyment and curiosity.

Our Christian values underpin all that we do.

EYFS/KS1 Phonics

We follow the Read Write Inc scheme in our daily phonics practice. We are supported by the English Hub and we are keen to ensure our phonics provision is outstanding for all.

We provide the children with decodable phonics books, following the Read Write Inc scheme, weekly for home reading. We also provide the children with additional books, with a range of genres, to enhance our ‘Reading for Pleasure’ offer at Coddington. We are passionate about making sure every child becomes a life -long reader.
